Is starch produced when a leaf is kept in the dark why or why not?

    Starch is not produced in the dark because light is the necessary element in photosynthesis, the way that plants make energy and produces starch.

    That's why when we do experiments that test for starch, we must leave the plant in dark areas for 48 hours so that it can use up all the remaining starch before we test any variables.
