    Specific gravity is defined as the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of reference substance. In this case the reference substance is water. Given that the density of water at 4.00 C is 1.00 g/cm3, then density of iron is 7.87 g/cm3.

    Given 4.50 g iron (cm3 iron / 7.87 g iron) = 0.571 cm3
