Nuclear fusion and fission are two atomic processes that release tremendous amounts of energy. The primary difference is that in fission, heavier atoms are broken down into smaller ones, while smaller atoms join together to form heavier ones in fusion.
The process of fission is the one that is used in atomic bombs and nuclear power plants. Fusion requires a large amount of energy to be started and is the energy production process for stars.
