Acetylene = 49.9 MJ/kg = 49.9 kJ / g
Benzene = 41.8 MJ/kg = 41.8 kJ / g
Fuel is combusted electrically within a container surrounded by a water jacket. Heat passes to the water and the temperature rise is recorded. Then the amount of heat per gram of substance is determined using this equation:
Q = mC∆T
Where:
Q = heat (Joules)
C = heat capacity of water = 4.18 J/g
∆T = temperature change (ºC)
