How many moles of carbon dioxide gas can be produced when 5.45 moles of benzene (C6H6) react with excess oxygen? Be sure to show the work that you did to solve this problem. Unbalanced equation: C6H6 + O2 "yields" / CO2 + H2O

    Assuming it is complete combustion, the products would be CO2 and H2O.

    We must have a balanced equation,

    C6H6 + (15/2) O2 - > 6CO2 + 3H2O

    This means 1 mol C6H6 yields 6 mol CO2

    5.45 mol C6H6 (6 mol CO2 / 1 mol C6H6) = 32.7 mol CO2
