The pH of a liquid is a measure of its acidity. Blood pH is kept near a value of between 7.3 - 7.5 because this is a pH neutral value and it therefore not too acidic and not too alkali. This is of utmost importance since most of our body's biological enzymes (simple catalysts) will only function within a limited range of neutral pH.
