The characteristic ions present in the water solutions of acids are hydronium ions.

    Option C

    Explanation:

Ions are nothing but the oxidized or reduced state of any element in the periodic table. If an element loses electrons or if it gains electrons, then that element will be termed as ion instead of atoms. Water is composed of hydrogen [H⁺] ion and hydroxide ion [OH⁻] ion.

When water is mixed with acids, then H₂O will get combine with OH⁻ group leading to the formation of hyronium ion H₃O⁺ ion. So every acid when dissolved in water solution, they will be forming hydronium ion.

Thus, the characteristic ions present in water solutions of acids are hydronium ions.
