Which of the following statements is false? Vapor refers to a gas formed by evaporation of a liquid or sublimation of a solid. Solid water (ice), unlike most substances, is denser than its liquid form (water). Condensed states have much higher densities than gases. Gases completely fill any container they occupy and are easily compressed. Molecules are very far apart in gases and closer together in liquids and solids.

Answer: Option (b) is the correct answer.

    Explanation:

Vapor refers to the conversion of liquid state of a substance into gaseous state or conversion of a solid state into gaseous state.

Density of ice (solid state of water) is less than the density of liquid state of water. This is because there are spaces present in the crystal lattice of ice due to which it has less mass.

As a result, it has low density and hence, it floats on the surface of water.

Thus, we can conclude that the statement Solid water (ice), unlike most substances, is denser than its liquid form (water), is false.
