    a) from Mg (OH) 2:

    m MgCL2 = 26.121 g

    b) from HCl:

    m MgCl2 = 14.362 g

    Explanation:

    Mg (OH) 2 + 2HCl → MgCL2 + 2H2O

    1 - Mg - 1

    2 - Cl - 2

    2 - O - 2

    4 - H - 4

    ∴ Mw Mg (OH) 2 = 58.3197 g/mol

    ∴ Mw HCl = 36.46 g/mol

    ∴ Mw MgCl2 = 95.211 g/mol

    from Mg (OH) 2:

    ⇒ m MgCL2 = (16.0 g Mg (OH) 2) (mol Mg (OH) 2/58.3197g) (mol MgCL2/mol Mg (OH) 2) (95.211 g MgCl2/mol MgCl2) = 26.121 g MgCl2

    from HCl:

    ⇒ m MgCL2 = (11 g HCl) (mol HCl/36.46g) (mol MgCl2/2 mol HCl) (95.211 gMgCl2/mol MgCl2) = 14.362 g MgCl2
