You are handed an opaque, hard rod. In the lab you pull on the ends of the rod. Before it start to stretch, it breaks with an audible 'snap'. You put one of the pieces on a hot plate and notice that it is slow to get hot on the top of the piece away from the hot plate. What is the likely class of solid material of your rod?
