Sodium (Na) reacts with chlorine (CI) to form sodium chlorine (NaCI). Predict how potassium (K) will react with chlorine (CI). Explain your prediction.

    K would react with Cl to for KCl₂.

    This is because while Na is in group I in the periodic table, K is in group II. This means K has two (2) valence electrons while Na has one (1). This means that while Na needs to lose only one (1) electron to achieve a stable configuration, K needs to lose two (2) electrons.

    Therefore K would require 2 chlorine atoms to donate its valence electrons hence the KCl₂ formulae. Remember that each Cl requires to be donated one electron to achieve stable electron configuration.
