The symbols in parenthesis indicates the phase or form of the substances involved in the reaction. Calcium Chloride is in an aqueous form, silver nitrate in aqueous form as well, calcium nitrate still in aqueous form and silver chloride in solid form. Other symbols are g for gas and l for liquid.
