    Combustion process

    Explanation:

Fossil fuels are hydrocarbons that are formed naturally. They are formed from the preservation of organic matter in an anaerobic environment.

When these hydrocarbons are combusted in the presence of oxygen, they liberate carbon dioxide and water and a third product which is energy. The form of energy that results from combustion is heat energy.

Combustion is very key to most industries and machines that utilizes fossil fuels as a source of energy. In power plants, the heat energy is used to produce steam which in turn is used to drive turbines.

In internal combustion engines of vehicles, the process of combustion is in place. The chemical energy in fossil fuels are converted to heat energy which in turn is used to drive pistons.
