    Explanation:

    Geologists define relative dating as the sequence in which rocks are arranged. Rock layers are called strata and relative dating can't give the exact age of these layers. It's assumed that the old rock layers will be at the bottom while the new rock layers will be at the top. This is described as superposition principle. Normally, these sedimentary rock layers appear in a horizontal manner although they can slightly tilt.
