Two isotopes of potassium are K-37 and K-42. How many valence electrons are in an atom of K-42 in the ground state?

    An isotope is an element with a different number of neutrons. This will not affect the number of valence electrons. Potassium is in group IA (the alkali metals), which have one valence electron in their ground state.
