Bromobutane is treated with sodium methoxide in methanol at 323 k. draw the major elimination product of the reaction. make sure to consider the stereochemistry of the reaction.

    This is an example of elimination reaction. The presence of methoxide will deprotonate the 1-methyl group of butane with simultaneous formation of a C=C bond in the 2 position and breaking of the carbon bromine bond. This result in the formation of 1-butene:

    CH2=CH-CH2CH3
