How would you classify a solution if [OH-] = 4.2 x 10-8 M?

    Answer: Slightly acid, almost neutral.

    pOH = - log [OH - ] = - log [4.2 x 10^-8] = 7.38

    pH + pOH = 14 = = > pH = 14 - pOH = 14 - 7.38 = 6.62.

    Remember: 7 is neutral, below 7 is acid. This solution is almost neutral.
