Components of Fuel cell are Hydrogen and Oxygen gases.

    Explanation:

Fuel cells are electrochemical devices which converts chemicals i. e. a fuel like H ₂ and oxidants like O₂ into direct current (D. C).

As we know when hydrogen is reacted with oxygen it produces water along with heat. Same reaction is carried out in fuel cells in a very controlled way.

The Hydrogen gas is oxidized at anodes to convert it into H ⁺ ions and electrons.

    At Anode:

    2 H₂ → 4 H⁺ + 4 e⁻

These electrons are passed through external circuit to Cathode. Meanwhile, the H⁺ ions passes through the porous anode to electrolyte to cathode chamber.

The electrons arrived at cathode reduces oxygen gas to O²⁻.

    At Cathode:

    O₂ + 4 e⁻ → 2 O²⁻

In cathode chamber O²⁻ reacts with H⁺ to produce water.

    2 O²⁻ + 4 H⁺ → 2 H₂O

This water produced is utilized by Astronomers in Satellites.
