Methane (CH₄) can react with oxygen (O₂) to produce carbon dioxide (CO₂) and water (H₂O). The balanced chemical reaction shows that, for every mole of methane reacted, the number of moles of water formed is:

    First, balance the chemical equation.

    CH₄+O₂⇒CO₂+H₂O turns into:

    CH₄+2O₂⇒CO₂+2H₂O (both sides have same amounts of everything)

    And so, for every mole of methane, two moles of water forms.
