If a given power plant released so2 gas with a volume v of 1200 m3 at a density ρ of 2.86 kg/m3 at standard pressure and temperature, how many moles n of so2 are released?

    Assume ideal gas behavior for simplicity so we can use this equation:

    PV = nRT

    Standard pressure is 101325 Pa

    Standard temperature is 273 K

    R is 8.314J/mol-K

    Solving for n,

    n = PV/RT

    n = (101325 Pa) (1200 m³) / (8.314J/mol-K) (273 K)

    n = 53,570.44 mol
