If the original sample of Zn had a mass of 1.4 g, what mass of ZnCl2 can be produced in the reaction?

    Zinc react with chlorine to form zinc chloride

    Zn + cl2 - - - > ZnCl2

    calculate the number of moles of Zn

    that is mass/molar mass of Zn (65.38g/mol)

    moles = 4g/65.38 g/mol = 0.021moles

    the reacting ratio of zinc to ZnCl2 is 1:1 from the reaction above

    therefore the moles of Zncl2 is also 0.021 moles

    mass = number of moles x molar mass

    The molar mass of ZNCl2 = 65.38 + (35.2 x2) = 136.38 g/mol

    Therefore the mass of Zncl2 = 0. 021 moles x 136.38 g/mol=2.86 grams
