    Explanation:

    Ammonium nitrate is represented by the chemical formula, NH4NO3. Its proper name by the international union of pure applied chemist (IUPAC) is Ammonium trioxonitrate (V).

    When dissolved in water, it absorbs large amount of heat and gives a liquid of very low temperature that is then used as a freezing mixture.

    Also NH4NO3 can be used as:

    - fertilizer e. g nitrochalk, and

    - explosives, e. g amatol or ammonal.
