We need 60.66 grams of chlorine to make 100 grams salt

    Explanation:

    Step 1: Data given

Mass of salt (NaCl) = 100.00 grams

    Molar mass of NaCl = 58.44 g/mol

    Molar mass of Cl - = 35.45 g/mol

You also know that for every mole of NaCl you have 1 mole of Na because every molecule of NaCl has 1 atom of Na.

Step 2: Calculate mass of Chlorine needed to make 100 grams of NaCl

    Mass Cl = 100 (g NaCl) * 1 mol (NaCl) / 58.44 g (NaCl) * 1 mol (Cl) / 1 mol (NaCl) * 35.45 (g of Cl / 1 mol (Cl)

Mass Cl = 60.66 grams (this means we need 39.34 grams of sodium)

We need 60.66 grams of chlorine to make 100 grams salt

    60.7g of elemental chlorine

    Explanation:

    Equation of reaction:

    Na + Cl = NaCl

    From the equation above,

1 mole (58.5g) of sodium chloride (salt) is formed from 1 mole (35.5g) of elemental chlorine

100g of salt would be produced from (35.5*100g) / 58.5 elemental chlorine = 60.7g of elemental chlorine
