How much heat is absorbed by a 2000 kg granite boulder as energy from the sun causes its temperature to change from 6°C to 25°C?

    Heat absorbed is calculated using the formula;

    Q = m * c*ΔT

    where, Q is the amount of heat absorbed in Joules,

    m is the mass of the substance

    c is the specific heat capacity of the substance

    ΔT is the change in temperature, (25°C - 6°c) = 19°C

    Specific heat capacity of granite is 790 J/kg/K

    Therefore;

    Heat absorbed = 2000 kg * 19 * 790 j/Kg/K

    = 30,020 kilo Joules
