    The periodic table is made up of all the elements that exist in nature. The element are grouped into families and periods using their characteristics.

    The family is a column of elements in the periodic table. There are 18 groups of elements in the periodic table.

    The periods are the horizontal rows of elements in the periodic table, they are numbered from one to seven.

    The term group is also used for elements in the same family.
