Barium is in period 6 and magnesium is in period 3 of the periodic table. Which element would lose one electron more easily, and why?

    I believe the correct answer would be barium. It is the element between the two that would lose one electron more easily. This is because it has a higher first ionization energy which means the that the probability of it existing as an ion would be higher than magnesium.
