A virus can be identified by culturing a specimen that contains it. This type of identification is called a viral culture identification. This is done by isolating the virus by feeding the media with appropriate nutrients depending on what type of virus is desired to be identified. Since a virus is not a living thing, it needs a host cell. This is done by adding a host cell and allowing the virus to penetrate the cell by centrifugal force in a centrifugation process.
