Asynchronous transfer mode (atm) network is best suited for Wide Area networks such as Digital Subscriber lines. It is designed to support and transport voice data and time-sensitive information (high traffic network).

The network protocol splits and encodes high traffic data into packets that are independently and instantaneously carried over the network through the most efficient paths.
