    Explanation:

    An IP address is a logical address used to communicate within a network. It is a protocol that operates in the network layer of the OSI network model. There are two versions of IP address and they are version 4 and 6.

    The IP addresses can be classified as a private or non routable address and public or routable address. It can be configured dynamically used the DHCP server or statically.

    When the DHCP server is used for IP configuration, an alternative configuration can be used to configure a static address to replace the dynamic address if it fails.
