RFID tagging is an IoT technology that allows assets to be tracked using electromagnetic fields to automatically identify tagged objects. RFID tags have two main categories: passive tags, which are powered by collecting radio waves from a nearby reader, and another type that is self-powered with a battery and can be read at further distances.     They have that name doe to that this tags are self-powered by using batery, giving them independence from the reader, because don't need its energy to work, this characteristic allows to work at distances that can reach about 100 meters, but they are also more expensive, bigger and heavier because of the batery and the transmitter
