As a system developer, I always consider three simple criteria in selecting a project. Feasibility, Timeframe and Budget.

Explanation:

The most important part of project selection in system analysis and design is the feasibility aspect. When we say feasibility, we must consider the practicality of developing the system for the company or client. To test and know the feasibility of the project, we must consider answering questions like:

*Is there really a need for the system? - Sometimes, we just consider creating systems because we just want to automates the process. But we are forgetting some things such as statistical figures of the company or the number of people who will be involved in system operations. We definitely don't want to develop a system to cater 10 customers or sell 3 products. It is not practical at all.

If there is really a need, what could be the obstacles or problems can we encounter during system development and planning? How can we address those problems? Does the system can really solve errors and problems encountered by the company or client? - Follow up question: What if the problem doesn't really lies on the system? The problem is service related.

Second criteria is timeframe. Each system design, plan and development process should be within the timeframe. Is the time frame realistic to the plan and the project? System that requires high level approach cannot be finished within 1 month. Let's be realistic and plan everything accordingly.

Third criteria involves money. We often has limited resources. By determining our budget capacity will allow us to know the time and people we need to hire to develop the system. Also, by knowing the budget, we will have a forecast on the profit that we can offer to our clients once they use the system that we designed for them.
