1. The central processing unit (CPU) known as processor is located inside the computer case of the mother board. Its job is to carry out commands. It is measured in megahertz or gigahertz. A faster processor can execute instructions more quickly.
2. The motherboard is the main circuit board of the computer. It is a thin plate that holds the CPU, memory, hard drive connectors, expansion cards to control audio and video and computer ports.
3. The power supply unit converts the power from the wall outlet to the type of power needed by the computer.
4. The random accessing memory (RAM) is the short term memory of the system. When your computer performs calculations, it temporarily stores the data in the RAM until it is needed. That is why, you need to save your files to avoid losing it. It is measured in megabytes or gigabytes. The more RAM you have, the more your computer can do things at the same time.
5. The hard drive is where the software of your computer is installed and where your documents and other files are stored. His is the long-term storage meaning that the data is saved even if you turn off the computer. The faster the hard drive is, the faster your computer can start up or load programs.
6. The peripheral component interconnect cards (PCI) are expansion slots on the motherboard to allow you to add various types of expansion cards.
7. The printed circuit board (PCB) come in twos, the sound and video card. They enhance the sound and quality of your computer.
