A modern color film can be made with three light sensitive layers on a clear base support. The top layer is sensitive to blue light and contains yellow dye. The middle layer is sensitive to green light and contains magenta dye. The bottom layer is sensitive to red light and contains cyan dye.

That being said, below listed in order from top to bottom are the layers of Kodak Ulta Max 400 color negative film. This one has 7 light sensitive layers.

    1. Overcoat 2. UV protection 3. Fast blue sensitive with yellow dye 4. Slow blue with yellow dye 5. Interlayer 6. Fast green with magenta dye 7. Slow green with magenta dye 8. Interlayer 9. Fast red with cyan dye 10. Mid sensitive red with cyan dye 11. Fast red with cyan dye 12. Annihilation 13. Subbing 14. Acetate base 125 micron thick.
