You're writing the 2nd edition of a user manual that will be packaged with software sold to the general public. You want to reuse a portion of the introductory materials from the first edition but cannot determine who wrote that section or what the contractual conditions were. You know that your company has customarily required that freelance writers sign work-made-for-hire agreements. What should you do?

You should rewrite the materials needed for introduction by yourself.

    Explanation:

One of the characteristics of an effective manual is that it has a unique introduction which served as a guide to the general public and also the members of the production unit of the software.

Writing a new introductory material will prevent you from breaching the contractual agreement (if any) between the previous writer of the previous edition and the company.
