S. government persuaded traditional Indian tribes including the Cherokee to sign a treaty that established the Cherokee would leave their land in exchange for money and other benefits.     Additionally, after this treaty the government made the Cherokees leave their land and move to the Indian territory in the West. This was possible because the government sent the US Army, also, this forced displacement had a great negative effect in the tribe not only because they had to leave their land, but also because many died in the process.
