What is the pressure drop when a liquid (viscosity = 0.001 Pa-s, density = 1000 kg/m3) flows at a rate of 40 liters/minute over a 2-cm diameter steel pipe that is 100 meters long? Effective roughness factor (k) is 0.046 mm. By what percent has the pressure drop increased compared to the hydraulically smooth pipe found in problem #2? Estimate the electrical power required to a pump that would support the calculated flow rate. Assume the pump is 70% efficient. Note the power required to pump is = pressure drop * flow rate = [ΔP]*Q. Make sure your units are consistent.
