Imagine you are the network architect/administrator for a nationwide enterprise network that consists of 200 routers placed in offices in every major city. The routers are connected by a private WAN in a combination mesh/star topology. After studying the descriptions and features of each protocol in chapter 4, you must make a choice between RIP and OSPF as the routing protocol for every router in your network. What are some of your considerations, and which protocol would you choose? (The more experienced students should wait a couple of days to post so that the others can think about this one a bit. Then chime in with your thoughts.) If there are other routing protocols you'd like to consider, post your thoughts as to what advantages they might offer.

    Since the routing network is a Nationwide enterprise network that consists of 200 routers are placed in offices in every major city, the following considerations about the type of routing protocol would be made:

    Which protocol is;

    popularly used today, flexible, easily configured, and matches the requirements of the network.

    For example,

    The RIP (Routing Information Protocol) is often used in smaller networks, which makes it easy to configure and use. Although it's limitation is that It Converges slowly, especially on large networks and is prone to routing loops.

    Meanwhile, the OSPF (Open Shortest Path First) routing protocol despite the fact that it is more complex to configure, is not prone to routing loops and performs better in large networks.

    Therefore, the OSPF routing protocol would be recommended to be used.
