He became something of an obsession with her-living as she was by then in exile with my father, isolated from her family who were still living on the Island. As my sisters and I were growing up, Trujillo and his excesses figured in many of my mother's cautionary tales

Answer: Doubly revolted, obsession, cautionary tales.

The story refers to the rule of Rafael Trujillo in the Dominican Republic. The dictatorship lasted, in different forms, from 1930 until his assassination in 1961. It was a very violent period for the Dominican Republic and one of the bloodiest governments in the history of Latin America.

In this story, the narrator's family lives in exile because of these political conditions. And the mother is extremely against Trujillo's character. This is reflected by claiming that she is doubly revolted by him, but also that she became obsessed with his actions. Finally, she also used him as a character of cautionary tales, meaning she considered him a real-life villain.

When the author mentions the mother feeling isolated and exiled, it is a description of her own state, and not about her feelings toward Trujillo, even if he is the reason why she is in that state.
