The First Seven Years is a short story published by Bernard Malamud that tells the story of a shoe maker who is seraching for a husband for his daugther. Later we discover that Sobel only reason to work there was to be close to Miriam, Feld's daughter, he wanted to marry her but Sobel doesn't want his daughter to be a Shoemaker's wife.
