How might internal dissent in european states have led to world war i?

    Let's take Austria as an example: just before World War I it included many states with many nations, people who spoke different languages and had different religions.

    Because the different nations felt they were not receiving enough representations and are otherwise oppressed, there were many tensions, and one of them lead to the assassination of Franz Ferdinand - which is what triggered the war.
