Friday got his name B. after the day on which he was rescued by Crusoe.

After living on the island on his own for many years, Crusoe found a tribe of cannibals on the island. They were just about to eat one person when Crusoe saved him from certain death. That man was Friday, and given that this event happened on a Friday, Crusoe decided to name him that.
