What is one advantage of watching or listening to a play as opposed to reading it? Emotions and motivations of the characters do not have to be inferred through the actors' portrayals. The viewer does not have to interpret the setting to understand the story's context. Different sound effects can be used to enhance the action and excitement of the story. Viewers are able to envision different interpretations of the characters and the storyline.

I believe that one advantage of watching or listening to a play as opposed to reading it is the final option - Viewers are able to envision different interpretations of the characters and the storyline.

It's not the same if you are reading something and watching it - if you read a novel or a play, you create your own opinions about what the characters look like or behave. However, it's quite different to actually see it with your own eyes on the screen or in a theater. These adaptations provide you with a different analysis of the work of literature that you've read.
