    In this story, the theme shows how when a person is going through a hardship in life they may make bad decisions. The decisions made in this story were calculating and ruthless leading to the mothers murder.

    The Honore and the entire Bontemps' family are very poor. Honore is called a pheasant, there was 4 generations who lived and raised their family in same cottage, and the cottage always had a dirt floor. Honore wanted the money from the wheat and bad a bad decision to forever haunt him.
