Why does Bud think that they speak a different language in Grand Rapids?

Bud think that they speak diferent language in Grand Rapids because he wanted to maintain the lie he had already told Mr. Lewis.

As a result of Bud not wanting to be sent back to the Home or, even worse, back to the Amoses, he had to tell Mr. Lewis that he ran away from Grand Rapids where they speak a diferent language.
