    The correct answers are that simple sentences:

    are short in length

    contain one independent clause

    may contain phrases

    Explanation:

    A sentence is a group of words that contains a subject and a predicate, is complete within itself, is used to ask a question, give a command, make a statement or give an exclamation. There are majorly types of sentences and they are; simple sentence, compound sentence, complex sentence, complex-compound sentence and sentence fragments.

    For a sentence to be considered to be simple, it must fulfill certain criteria which includes;

    a. it contains one independent clause and no dependent clauses; for example in the sentence; 'I walk', there is an independent clause (I walk to the market) and no dependent clause, hence it is a simple sentence, but if written like this; 'I walk to the market when it is not raining', the clause 'when it is not raining' is a dependent clause, because its full meaning is gotten when it is joined to the first clause; 'I walk to the market'

    b. a simple sentence has an independent clause which contains subject and a predicate. A predicate is a phrase of more than one word, containing a verb. For example, 'The cows walked to the field'. 'The cows' is the subject, while the predicate is 'walked to the field'.

    c. a simple sentence consist of an independent clause, having a subject and may contain a compound predicate. For example, 'In the house, parrot flies around and makes a lot of noise, the subject is ' the parrot', while the compound predicate is; 'flies around and makes a lot of noise'

    I recommend you read the other types of sentences to get complete understanding of different types of sentences.
