    The retold of the classic myth of Midas in "Midas" by Thomas Bulfinch, narrates the classic story of King Midas gift and doom of that everything he touches becomes gold. However in this version he prays to Bacchus to release him from his gift. Bacchus was merciful and told him that he must swim on a certain river to remove his power. King Midas was cured, therefore a theme of this story is that friendship with Bacchus brought Midas more happiness that what money could give him.
