This comes from the play " The importance of Being Earnest " written by Oscar Wilde. It is the story of Jack Worthing who invents an imaginary brother who is a rebel and Cecily and Gwendoline fall in love with Ernest. Algernon poses as Ernest to win Cecily's heart. The dramatic irony here is that the implications of the situation are understood by the audience. Jack said that Ernest was dead, but Algernon already posed as Ernest without Jack knowing this.

Question: Jack tells his family that "Ernest" has died of a severe chill. How is this an example of dramatic irony?
