What is the dramatic irony found in the Masque of the Red Death?

    The appearance of the Red Death within the abbey is ironic because Prince Prospero has taken extreme measures to protect himself from the plague. He has shut himself off from the majority of his subjects and fled to "the deep seclusion of one of his castellated abbeys."
