    Niccolò Machiavelli wrotte in The Prince a book of teachings for future kings, leaders and governors, that aimed to give examples and lessons to those who would eventually be on positions of power, in this excerpt he states that a Prince, a good leader, shouldn't fear being too cruel with a few guilty people, in order to set an example for other people that try and do the same crime, in this manner he is able to set an example and discourage others from doing the same, saving more lifes than if he was just a merciful leader and forgave all of his subjects crimes.
