    1) the first letter of a quote should be capitalized, regardless of where it is in the sentence, so we can reject the two options without a capitalized beginning. Also, the beginning of the sentence should start with a capital - even if it's not inside a quotation!

    So the correct answer is:

    My friend Ashira asked, "Do you know what the homework assignment is for tonight"
